GENERAL NEWS / 17-04-2023
Aratubo has taken a firm commitment to align its strategies and operations with the Ten Universal Principles of the UN on human rights, labour and environmental standards, and the fight against corruption.
Together with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda and the commitment to the Ten Principles of the UN, Aratubo thus signs up to the same global objective in sustainability: to promote the transformative power of companies to create a better world.
Advantages of belonging to the Global Compact
Training
By joining the Global Compact, Aratubo benefits from a national and international training programme. This continuous and dynamic learning will help us to face the new challenges of sustainability, as well as to maximise our contribution to the 2030 Agenda.
In addition to the training programme, as a new partner Aratubo has access to specific online tools, as well as an online library specialised in the main topics of interest in the field of sustainability.
Networking
The creation of sectoral working groups coordinated through strategic alliances is also encouraged, focusing on sustainability and specific SDGs.
Visibility
Communication with stakeholders to publicise and highlight the progress made in terms of sustainability, both internally and externally.
What is the Global Compact?
The UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, founded by the United Nations and encompassing the principles and values of the Organisation. It has been in existence for over 20 years and comprises over 70 local networks worldwide, including the Spanish network, created in 2004.
Its ten principles are divided across four areas of action:
Human rights
Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence.
Principle 2: Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
Principle 4: Businesses should support the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
Principle 5: Businesses should support the effective abolition of child labour.
Principle 6: Businesses should support the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
Principle 8: Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
Principle 9: Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
By including these ten principles in our roadmap, Aratubo reaffirms our commitment to improving the quality of life of the people and the environment that surround us, and to carry out actions that promote economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
In the words of our motto: ‘Working from the inside to take care of the outside”.
