ARATUBO AS A HEALTHY COMPANY

Right from the start, Aratubo has been committed to implementing actions aimed at enhancing the well-being of our entire company and its surroundings. Furthermore, we embrace the principles of a Healthy Company. Our approach goes beyond implementing occupational risk prevention measures. We strive to take a holistic approach that considers both work and personal aspects of our employees’ lives.

HEALTHY COMPANY

Back in 2013, the Spanish Network of Healthy Companies Image project was introduced in Spain. This initiative drew inspiration from the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP) programme.

BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A HEALTHY COMPANY?

According to the WHO, a healthy company is defined as a place where both management and teams work together to establish an ongoing process of improvement aimed at safeguarding and enhancing the health, safety, and well-being of employees, as well as ensuring the sustainability of the work environment.

This means that, based on identified needs, certain implications arise:

  • Firstly, the health and safety of employees are influenced by their physical work environment.
  • Factors such as infrastructure, equipment, and overall workplace conditions play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Personal health resources in the workplace.
  • Different ways of community involvement are employed to enhance the health of workers, their families, and other community members.

Aratubo shares this vision of a Healthy Company based on three fundamental pillars:

  • Effectively managing the well-being of the workforce with a comprehensive and integrated approach, addressing physical, mental and emotional factors.
  • Incorporating well-being into all company policies, integrating it into all decision-making processes and activities.
  • Going beyond complying with current legislation on occupational risk prevention by implementing further measures that foster a culture of well-being and prevention.

HEALTHY COMPANY INITIATIVES IN ARATUBO

Aratubo continuously carries out various initiatives focused on the well-being of our teams. The objective of these activities is to equip employees at Aratubo with the essential knowledge and skills needed to attain physical, emotional, and social well-being, both at the individual level and for the organisation as a whole.

  • DUE three times per week to look at any type of medical need (within legal and regulatory limitations).
  • Every year, Aratubo provides the opportunity for its employees to receive a complimentary flu shot at its facilities.
  • A fund to cover 50% of the costs for employees who require physiotherapy treatment at affiliated centres for conditions that impact their ability to perform job tasks effectively.
  • Installation of covered and secure bike racks in all workplaces, to foster and encourage sustainable mobility and exercise.
  • We foster the use of electric bicycle as an alternative way to get to work. In 2020, an electric bicycle was lent to anyone who wanted one for two weeks in collaboration with the City Council.
  • Aratubo sponsored the Txirrio project, which aimed to promote sports at the community level, by renovating a basketball court located in a public park in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
  • Four times a year, we host Fruit Day, where we set up designated areas using recycled materials to display fresh seasonal fruit and nuts.
  • Through our “Take Care of your Heart” campaign, we collaborate closely with MC Mutual to raise awareness and provide information about healthy practices for maintaining cardiovascular health.
  • We actively participate in sporting events, such as the recent Intercompany Padel Tournament in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF TWO NEW PROJECTS SCHEDULED TO ROLL OUT THIS SUMMER:

  • A mindfulness and stretching programme for employees who work in front of a computer screen almost all day. This programme comprises two in-person courses focused on health and well-being. These training sessions combine theory and practice. In the first Mindfulness module, breathing, meditation and visualisation techniques are taught to foster relaxation, concentration and stress management. The second Stretching module seeks to prevent injuries, reduce pain, improve mobility and strength, and increase energy levels through yoga, Pilates, back school, and body awareness exercises.
  • Individualised ergonomic improvement project: This programme is specifically designed for employees working in the production area. As part of this programme, we have engaged the expertise of an industry physiotherapist who assesses job tasks. As well aand develops exercises to be performed before and after movements that may pose potential risks to the body. This training is carried out in the workplace itself.

At Aratubo we believe that building a healthy company begins with the workplace itself. Which is why we believe ergonomics, the work environment and implementing ergonomic improvements within our workshop is essential. In line with this, we are committed to ongoing efforts to enhance the well-being and healthy culture of our teams.
